Liza Estes | Roots Beauty and Barbering Studio

Liza has been studying and working with various hair cutting and coloring techniques for over 14 years. After receiving her license in cosmetology, she studied advanced precision cutting techniques with Paul Mitchell (the school in Costa Mesa, California) and advanced color techniques with Roy Peters. When it comes to color, Liza is inspired most by a person’s natural beauty; and therefore, she specializes in natural looking color to enhance that natural beauty. She also specializes in men's hair design and traditional barbering techniques.

In 2014 while continuing to primarily work with a female client base, Liza's desire to expand her skills led her to begin working in a barber shop. "I was never really taught men’s hair cutting techniques when I was studying cosmetology and I have always had a deep respect for the art of shaving and barbering." In 2016, she received her Master Barber certification and is currently dual-licensed as a Master Hair Care Specialist. Liza opened Roots Beauty and Barbering Studio in February of 2018 with the intent of joining the two worlds of cosmetology and barbering. "I wanted to create a gender-neutral space where both men and women could come and feel comfortable getting their hair cut and colored."

In addition to working as a stylist and barber, Liza also serves as a yoga instructor. After becoming certified in 2015, she began volunteer work with the non-profit organization Karuna Prison Yoga, and in 2017, teamed up with Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands to provide yoga classes to female inmates in South Carolina with a history of abuse and trauma. With a deep love for her industry, Liza began sharing yoga with fellow hair stylists. In March of 2018, she will begin teaching yoga in local barber shops and salons. "I know how much yoga has helped me become a better stylist, and I want to give back to an industry that has given me so much." Shop owners and managers can contact Liza directly on her website if interested in providing yoga to their stylists and barbers!
